Round 2 on the naming of the new airport New airport as the Lopez Jaena airport? By Lory Ann B. Bilbao Sunstar Iloilo. Friday, February 09, 2007 THE Dr. Graciano Lopez Jaena Foundation Inc (DGLJFI) wanted to convince President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo that the Iloilo International Airport, located in the municipality of Cabatuan in Iloilo Province, be named after a local hero. The Iloilo International Airport, which is sprawled on a 188-hectare site between the municipalities of Sta. Barbara and Cabatuan, is 19 kilometers away from Iloilo City. It is expected to be operational April this year. In a Regional Development Council meeting Thursday, the foundation proposed the same move. Its chairman, Antique Governor Sally Zaldivar Perez, also a member of the foundation and who has once proposed for the conversion of the Iloilo International Airport into the junked Panay International Airport, said they would push for its renaming. These are the same people who wanted to change it to Panay. Now they wanted to change it to Graciano Lopez Jaena. Ang gusto lang nanda gid man nga indi Iloilo. They do not want the province to enjoy their own airport, and much less to give credit to present Ilonggo personalities who strived to make it happen. Bottom line nanda: Any Name but not Iloilo

Lopez jaena??? New Iloilo airport is ILOILO; it represents the ILOILO Province.... Lopez Jaena is a particular person from Jaro only and does not represent the population. Is there some kind of lobbying on this. How could you.....

I myself am against the renaming of the new airport from ILOILO into something else, not even Panay, nor Graciano Lopez Jaena.
The airport's name should be something that its number 1 user (Ilonggos) can relate to and can be proud of. "Panay" doesn't ring a bell. And so does Graciano Lopez Jaena. But the name Iloilo Airport is something that all of us can identify with.
"Iloilo Airport" is also a name that potential tourists can relate to and not be confused. If we are to market Iloilo's tourism especially abroad, there is no better line in giving directions than to tell the potential tourists that the way to Iloilo is through Iloilo Airport.
The renaming therefore is an endeavor in the wrong direction.

Naming the new airport after somebodys name is just plain stupid.I dont know if a lot of people in Iloilo have lost thier mind.I guess if that thing requires a number of names i bet someone who thinks has the power to do may even put thier cats and thier dogs name to it. Changing or giving a new name to it is just like changing a new name the whole panay island, think about it....If you change Iloilo to some name like graciano, pedro, juan, maria, hapon or inagi or minango everybody in the whole wide world will just make fun of ya'll.One guy who posted here sound right, everybody get losts and don't even knew that there is such a place called iloilo, where in the hell is iloilo.Lets think about a little of common sense" it is the main landmark of iloilo city and the whole panay island. I thought the mission and vision behind all those new developments concerns mainly for the success and progress of the whole province.
The heroes are still and remains very famous in our histories and in our minds, we could not forget any of them. But changing everything from its origin is no brainer and very confusing.

_**Iloilo International Airport** is just a perfect and the right name.We have hundreds to thousands of illonggo heroes in Panay alone. My parents, your parents or the city mayors parents are even great heroes too.Say, if we named it Graciano LJ,..or whatever.. we even have our own local greatest hero of the country named" TOMAS CONFESOR"and a solid rock Cabatuananon. But since we have an objective to progress our province maybe?'\ we need to make a second thought about not being very greedy and dumb and name it after whoever our grandparents name was.
The people alone that was displaced under that runway from all the directions of Cabatuan and Sta Barbara are even entitled to have thier names in that airport (if we're thingking about being a heroic idiot) because they were the true heroes too.Tourism and some foriegn investments might grow big. Can't we not understand how we could make Cabatuan, the neighboring towns and the province itself bring to its progress. Or we will just put our famous names on something and keep our mouth open and our stomach growling under it hoping one day a piece of bull crap will fall in it, or we will just remain dumb and dumber.
Is this what we call true heroism and a real hypocrisy???

it is NOT an international airport. not yet, anyway.
ang original language is, it is an airport of international standards.
bali ang iya facilities are comparable to that of an international airport.
but there are no plans for the moment para sa mga international flights.
funny, the so-called international airport is in iloilo but the international flights are going to kalibo.
