CenterPhil Montessori of 663 Capt. Tirador St., Janiuay, Iloilo wants to congratulate its former CenterPhil Knights team captain, Jerum Fabela, a fresh graduate of CenterPhil Montessori-High School Department (Batch 2009-2010) & presently a 1st year college student of John B. Lacson University, for making it to the First 5 of the John B. Lacson University Dolphins Varsity Basketball Team under head coach Dunkin Sasuman (Ex-PBA player of Purefoods). Fabela is a "Class A" Basketball scholar at John B. and avails a full free tuition fee scholarship grant including free board & lodging at the University's dormitory. Fabela who hails from Barangay Bitaoyan, Badiangan, Iloilo was discovered as a backyard basketball player (playing in the barangay leagues) by Centerphil Knights Team Manager Vice Mayor Mark Palabrica (of Bingawan, Iloilo) upon the recommendation of Knights Head Coach Santi Gonzales and joined the roster of the newly organized CenterPhil High School Knights in 2009 as a special scholar because he cannot afford to pay his tuition fee. As a CenterPhil Knight, he joined the Janiuay Basketball Team who emerged as champions in the 3rd Congressional District Sports Association Meet in Janiuay, Iloilo, joined the Iloilo Basketball Team who grabbed the Gold Medal during the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet in Kalibo, Aklan, and joined Region 6 Basketball Team who grabbed the Silver Medal during the 2010 Palarong Pambansa in San Jose, Tarlac. While studying at CenterPhil, he walks for almost 1 hour every day from Bitaoyan, Badiangan going to Barangay Abat, Mina where he will be fetched by the CenterPhil school bus. Coming from a lower class family, Fabela believes that poverty is not a hindrance to study and avail quality education. Fabela wants to be a successful seaman someday and he serves as an inspiration to the CenterPhil Knights Varsity Basketball Team. According to Fabela, if not for CenterPhil Montessori & the CenterPhil Knights Varsity Basketball Team, he can no longer pursue his college education nor his dream of helping his family and maybe he will just devote himself into farming right now together with his father and stop his schooling if not enrolled at CenterPhil & not discovered through basketball. CenterPhil Montessori is not only for the rich but also for deserving & talented students in the district. Goodluck Jerum Fabela!
